Slow PC performance can be downright frustrating. You could be working on an important document for work or for yourself and you find that your computer has slowed to a crawl. You've probably asked yourself, "Why is my computer running so slow?"

There are several ways to improve your PC's performance, short of purchasing a new one and investing in costly repairs and upgrades. Take these three steps to optimize your computers performance and stop the windows errors and problems and find out why my computer is running slow.

#1 First, examine your hard drive and remove any unused programs and organize or delete old photos and music files and anything else you do not use. This will free up a lot of hard disk space and also increase your computers performance substantially by freeing up memory that is being hogged by these programs.

#2 Next, defragment your hard drive. This will arrange all files on your PC. This operation, which can take a few hours to complete the first time you run it, can be found under "System Tools." The time will be worth it as this will prevent file corruption later on.

#3 Finally, run a free registry scan to remove errors and corrupt files from your Windows registry. The Windows registry is a database for every program and device the settings for them. If one of the registry entries is outdated or corrupted, it can slow your computer down considerably and even crash windows.
